The betterSoil Farm Assistant is a web-based decision-support system designed to translate satellite-derived soil data, soil information and agronomic knowledge into practical, field-level recommendations. By combining Earth observation data with crop-specific agronomic rules, soil indicators and user-defined objectives, the system supports the development of multi-year crop rotation strategies that improve productivity, soil health and long-term resilience in agricultural supply chains.
The Farm Assistant currently consists of three core components: a satellite-based Soil Fertility Map, a Crop Rotation Recommendation Engine, and an interactive Crop Rotation Simulator. The Soil Fertility Map visualises field-level variability and supports site-specific decision-making. The Crop Rotation Recommendation Engine generates multi-year crop rotation “recipes” based on field conditions, climate patterns, crop requirements and user objectives. The Crop Rotation Simulator allows users to manually adjust, test and compare different crop rotation scenarios within a multi-year planning timeline.
